I love Pan's Labyrinth. It’s like a combination of my two favorite types of movies.  “Fairytale fantasy” and horror.   Very dark, but very good.

Old Boy

Korean revenge movie, best of it's kind I've seen, not including Tarantino movies.

Premise is, some guy is kidnapped and held in a single room for 15 years without explanation, is then released, also without explanation. He needs to find out why, etc. Features some of the most brutal scenes I've ever seen.

 Also I think you can spot some azns playing starcraft at one point.

Oldboy is pretty awesome, as are most of Park Chan-Wook's films (leaving work, so links later).

If you want brutal though, Takashi Miike (Visitor Q, Audition director) handily beats him out, as there are a couple of scenes in Oldboy that are similar in Ichi the Killer, and Miike just stomps all over his balls.
