As with all stories, there are character archetypes that pop up and develop within anime and related media.
The 'dere' (day-ray) archetypes are among the largest archetypes and an example if one can be found in pretty much every romantic comedy produced by Japan in recent years.
Dere is the affectionate type of the archetype, this further attatches itself to:
Tsundere: outwardly conflictive, and appears to not get along with another character, but secretly harbors or develops romantic feelings towards said character.
Kuudere: outwardly emotionless and stoic but secretly harbors or develops yadda yadda yadda...
And then... there is yandere:
