65daysofstatic

Post-rock, blended with sampled electronic drum beats. Amazing shit. Probably some of the best music I've heard in a while.

I have a 65 days of static album.  it's pretty enjoyable.

my turn: mike "sport" murphy, songwriter and folk rock musician who writes probably the most brilliant lyrics of all time.  kat back me up.

Like Broseph Stalin, you are leading the way to the dictatorship of the broletariate. It is truly revbrolutionary. Like the Bro v. Wade of our generation. You brobliterate the enemy from the very peak of Mt. Brolympus. That's some shit. That's brolific. But that's the kind of bro you are.

not as complex or interesting as godspeed IMO, but it's definitely got something to it.

I completely agree with alex.  Sport Murphy is crass and at the same time so sweet and mild.  He captures images of small moments with such a clarity and conjures feelings of lost thoughts.  big thumbs up for me.

at this moment Amiina is my favorite thing to listen to.  They are the orchestra behind Sigor Ros.  And they are adorable taboot.

haha clap your hands say yeah lead singer must have tuned his voice for 15 years to mimic thom yorke so well, hair lip and everything.  it's good, though.  sounds sorta like Granddaddy, for some reason.  that reminds me: Granddaddy is awesome, too.

Also, uploaded a Sport Murphy album...  give it a shot if you like brilliant songwriting and beautiful music: http://files.filefront.com/mike+sport+murphy+unclerar/;9637375;/fileinfo.html

A Place to Bury Strangers is great so far.

Vampire Weekend is a little different.  Their songs are all really upbeat and catchy (handdrum omg), they're the kind of songs that get into your head and don't get out for a week.

I have Godspeed You!, Explosions in the, 65days, and more.  Yndi Halda is somewhat interesting:

However, I'm getting tired of post rock and I'm probably going to dig up some more classical music.  But, I also enjoy some things that are odd, poppy, and interesting.

Klaxons:

Annoyingly poppy, Digitalism:

As Casual's British resident I feel it's my duty to bring a bit of Best of British to the thread.

Here's a very varied selection with a theme of strings.

Unkle - Lonely Souls
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__r0gwxzeVE
After hearing the first 65 days of static song that was posted. I enjoyed it but felt that at times they seemed to lose the beat and let it run away from them a bit and it reminded me of what a good job Unkle did with this track.

Massive Attack - Antistar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxSG4SjaTJg
Such a dark track with such beautiful strings. I'd imagine this won't be everyone's cup of tea. Nobody really does dark as well as Massive Attack.

Groove Armada - Edge Hill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEAhRhjtK58
They'll be a temptation for many of you to skip forward a bit but the long intro is really part of what makes this song so great. It's a fantastic track to just close your eyes to and let yourself drift away.

Lamb - Gorecki
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtIeH_J-SiI
As a bit of a lift after a couple of quite dark songs this is certainly one of Lamb's better tracks. I know Emily is a huge fan of this song, it's one of those that really appeals to a lot of people.

Probably a couple of bands you have heard of there and some you haven't.

Baggles, in line with your folk-rock theme I give you Ray LaMontagne:
